    Private mode in one click, and no more waiting on Polishing (Mac)

    • Private mode is now in the menu bar menu: click the Write My Flow icon and choose Private mode to switch it on or off. A tick shows when it's on.
    • Turning Private mode on for the first time now gets everything it needs by itself, a one-time download of about 148 MB. The floating dot shows how far along it is, and nothing you dictate is sent anywhere in the meantime.
    • Dictations made in Private mode are now marked Private in History.
    • Fixed: a longer dictation could sit on "Polishing…" for minutes if the Write My Flow window had been closed for a while. On macOS 14 and later it now finishes in seconds.

    Double-tap to lock on, and silence that stays silent (Mac)

    • A new way to use your hotkey: hold it to talk, or double-tap it to keep dictation on hands-free until you tap again. Choose it under Hotkey behavior in Settings.
    • If your hotkey is the fn 🌐 key on a Mac, a quick tap may still open the emoji picker too. Settings now explains how to turn that off, or you can switch to hold and double-tap.
    • Dictating silence could sometimes type a note about your background audio into your document. Now nothing is typed, and Write My Flow tells you it didn't catch anything.
    • Choose when the floating dot appears, under Floating dot in Settings: Always, Only while dictating, or Never. Only while dictating keeps your screen clear until you start talking.
    • If you've set the floating dot to Never, it no longer flashes up at the start of each dictation and disappears a few seconds later. You'll see a moving waveform in the menu bar instead.
    • Private mode now closes Write My Flow's connection to the cloud speech service as soon as you turn it on, so nothing stays connected while your words stay on your Mac.

    Dictation you can hear, and a Dictionary that learns (Mac)

    • Write My Flow now makes a small sound when dictation starts and a lower one when it stops, so you can keep your eyes on what you're writing. A quick tap of the hotkey locks dictation on hands-free and gives you a short click. Turn the sounds off in Settings if you'd rather it stayed quiet.
    • Write My Flow now learns the words you actually use. Names, brands, acronyms and codes it keeps mishearing are picked up from your own dictations and collected in a Learned section of the Dictionary, with what it heard and why it suggested each one. Anything it learns can be undone from the dot or the Dictionary, and you can switch the whole thing off in Settings.
    • Fixed: An upgrade that stopped half-way used to leave the app stuck.
    • Offline dictation now understands "quote ... unquote" and "end quote" better.

    Private mode kept honest, and dictation that works offline

    • Private mode fix: switching it on used to take effect only after the next restart — until then your speech still went to the cloud, even though History marked those dictations private. It now takes effect the moment you flip the switch, and the dot shows a small badge while Private mode is on. We're sorry — this had been true since Private mode arrived.
    • Working offline or in Private mode, your words are now tidied up on your Mac: “new paragraph” and “full stop” become real layout, amounts become £25.50, lists become bullets, stumbles are cleaned up, and British spelling is applied. Try it in Settings → Try offline formatting.
    • The offline model download now carries on from where it stopped if your connection drops — no more starting a 148 MB download over.
    • Insights: a new page showing your streak, how many words you've spoken, where they went, and how much the cleanup changed — all worked out on your computer, nothing sent anywhere.
    • Polish: when a dictation looked clean enough to type straight through, the dot briefly offers a careful version. One tap swaps it in.
    • Sync now says plainly whether it is set up, and why.
    • Under the hood: the build had stopped compiling on Mac for a week without anyone noticing, which is why this update took a few days longer than planned. Fixed, with a note to ourselves about testing on a real Mac before every release.

    The Mac microphone fix

    • Fixes a launch-week fault in the first Mac release: on a brand-new Mac the app never asked for microphone access, so dictation stayed silent. It now asks the moment it needs to listen — please update (or re-download) if dictation never heard you.
    • If macOS ever switches off Write My Flow's permission to type into other apps (it can happen after reinstalling), the app now notices at launch and walks you through turning it back on — your words are always kept safe in History and on the clipboard meanwhile.
    • New Troubleshooting help for the tell-tale sign: dictations that end up on the clipboard instead of at your cursor.

    Write My Flow comes to Mac

    • A signed Mac app you can download right from this site — one universal build for Apple silicon and Intel.
    • It keeps itself up to date: a quiet background check, a silent download, and a small “Update ready” note — restart whenever suits you.
    • The menu bar icon becomes a live waveform while you dictate, on every display — so you always know it's listening.
    • Prefer a clean screen? The floating dot is now optional on Mac (Settings → App) — it only reappears if something needs your attention.
    • The dot also learned to stay exactly where you drop it, on the screen where you dropped it.

    A proper welcome

    • A “Getting started” checklist on Home that hand-holds your first minutes: it shows your hotkey, introduces the floating dot (it waves hello), and ticks itself off as you actually use things.
    • It even helps you make the hotkey yours — see your current keys, get a suggestion like Ctrl+Win, and jump straight to the exact setting, highlighted.

    Your microphone, handled properly

    • Headsets that come back on their own: turn a Bluetooth headset off and on — or walk out of range and back — and dictation picks it up within a few seconds. No re-selecting, no restarting.
    • It tells you what's listening: when the app starts, and whenever the active mic changes, the floating dot briefly shows the device's name.
    • One-click restart: a new “Restart Write My Flow” option in the tray menu gives you a fresh start if anything ever gets stuck.
    • Clearer troubleshooting help, and small fixes.

    Your memory, on all your computers

    • Encrypted Sync (Pro): your dictionary, snippets, and history follow you between computers — encrypted on your device before they leave, with a recovery phrase only you hold.
    • Strictly opt-in: nothing syncs until you turn it on, and you can switch it off or delete the synced copy at any time.

    A much better memory

    • Ask your whole history, not just the recent past — “what did I say about pricing last week?” now searches everything, understands times (“yesterday”, “last week”) and apps (“in Outlook”).
    • History search speaks the same language — times, apps, and fuzzy word matching.
    • Set your push-to-talk keys by just pressing them.
    • Dictating into a code editor no longer wraps your prose in code comments.
