Big companies put this behind a “request access” button and an NDA. We think you should be able to read it on the bus. Here is the complete journey of a dictation, in plain English.

You hold your keys and speak
Your voice streams over an encrypted connection to our speech service and comes back as words in real time. It is never written to disk and never stored — by us or by them. In Private mode or offline, this step happens entirely on your device instead.

The words get polished
The raw text goes to our formatting service, which removes the filler and fixes the punctuation, then immediately forgets it. It is never used to train anything. In Private mode this step is skipped.

Polished text lands at your cursor
And both versions — raw and polished — are saved to History in a local database on your computer. Not on our servers. We could not read your history if we wanted to.

If you turn on Sync (Pro, optional)
Your dictionary, snippets, and history are encrypted on your device before they leave it, with a key only you hold. What our servers store is unreadable to us.

We count one number
How many words we polished for you this week — that's how the free plan's limit works. The count, never the words.
Every service that touches your data

- DeepgramTurns your speech into text. Hears your voice as you dictate; stores nothing.
- AnthropicTidies the words through our proxy, then forgets them. Never used for training.
- SupabaseHolds your account, weekly word counts and — only if you turn on Sync — data encrypted so we can't read it. Hosted in London, UK.
- StripeHandles payment. We never see your card.
- Microsoft StoreInstalls and updates the app. Sees nothing from inside it.
The promises
- Your words are never sold, mined, shown to advertisers, or used to train AI models.
- What we do hold — your account and any encrypted Sync copy — is stored in the UK (London), under UK data protection law. Not offshore.
- Your words are never lost: if formatting or pasting fails, the raw transcript is still delivered and kept in your History.
- Your words stay on your device unless you choose otherwise, and retention is yours to set — including “store nothing”.
- Delete your history any time in the app. Delete your account with one email.
- If any of this ever changes, the change will be announced before it happens — not buried in a policy update.
